The classical Indian softcane Dendrobium. Deciduous, the large showy flowers are borne at the nodes along the cane. Rest in winter, dry, and in spring use liberal fertiliser and water with the new growth. Best grown in a large shallow pot or basket, it will also grow happily in garden trees in almost any climate, short of freezing. Dendrobium nobile will form large clumps, with aerial plantlets developing on the canes.
