A Madagascan species, this is more or less the African equivalent of the American catasetums. Deciduous and kept dry in winter, they need a rich media in a small pot and copious water and fertiliser with the new growth. Intermediate growers, but readily grown in cold climates because they are dormant during the cold winter and can be removed from the orchid house until spring. Maximum sunlight is required, short of leaf burn. In winter, the leafless bulbs can be kept dry and repotted when the new lead appears.
