A unique species, with a deciduous subterrainian tuber that produces the flower before the leaf. Very amenable to cultivation provided the tubers are rested dry afer the leaves fade away. Before spring, a repot into fresh gravelly soil and leafmould will promote healthy growth and flowers. A little animal manure sprinkled on top of the fresh media may be of great benefit, and heavy watering until the leaves reach their maximum size is essential. Nervilia peltata is a minture orchid, with a leaf to 2.5 cm diameter. Once the leaves have matured, less water is required until the leaf fades and water is withheld.
